Moments Lab Partners with ITN to Transform Video Discovery for 5 News

Public service broadcaster’s flagship news programme increases depth and variety of storytelling possibilities with AI Video Discovery

Leading AI-driven video discovery company Moments Lab is pleased to announce its partnership with Independent Television News (ITN), the UK-based factual production company creating award-winning content spanning news, documentaries, sport, podcasts, and live events.

ITN is deploying Moments Lab’s Video Discovery Platform powered by award-winning MXT multimodal AI across its public broadcast television 5 News service. The partnership sees Moments Lab index 5 News's entire archive and enrich new daily video content, giving story producers faster, smarter access to footage across one of the UK's most-watched news programmes.

Previously, 5 News producers and digital teams relied on manual, time-intensive methods to locate archive footage, a process that was both disjointed and a significant drain on editorial time. With Moments Lab, teams working on 5 at 5 the flagship hour-long daily news bulletin—can search and surface relevant footage in seconds rather than hours. This unlocks incredible gains in turnaround time, content quality, and the depth and variety of stories that can be told.

"At ITN, we're committed to putting the right AI tools in our teams’ hands—tools that make a genuine impact right at the heart of production” explained Tim Forrest, ITN’s Director of Distribution and Innovation. “Moments Lab gives the 5 News team exactly what they need: the ability to find the footage they're looking for quickly, enriched with the context to make it useful. That's a real, practical win for producers working against the clock every day."

The deployment represents a significant evolution for 5 News operations. Forrest continued, “we’re working closely with Moments Lab to operationalise this new AI video discovery layer in our workflows, keeping humans very much in the loop, and laying the foundation for agentic workflow adoption in the future.”

"News production is one of the most time-pressured environments in media, and every minute counts,” said Phil Petitpont, CEO and co-founder of Moments Lab. “This partnership with ITN and 5 News is a fantastic example of exactly what Moments Lab was built to do—cut through the noise and get the right footage to the right person, fast. We're proud to be supporting the 5 News team with their deployment of AI workflows, and can't wait to see what they create."

Moments Lab clients span media and entertainment, sports and brands, and include Fulwell Entertainment, Sinclair, TF1, M6, Asharq News, AFP, the European Broadcasting Union and Brut.

Moments Lab will showcase the latest Multimodal and Agentic AI capabilities of its Video Discovery Platform at the 2026 NAB Show, April 19-22 in Las Vegas. Booth #N1011. Book a demo meeting.
