Evian Championship Overview

The Evian Championship was established in 1994 an is a professional women’s golf tournament in France.

This event is hosted annually at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains.

Furthermore it is the only Women’s Major in continental Europe, and became an LPGA event in 2009. The tournament is internationally known for crowning leading international female golf players for over 25 years.

Context and Challenge

In preparation for the 2019 Evian Championship organized by Danone, the event’s Organization Committee was looking for a way to promote social media engagement related to the event. Pre, live and post-event promotion and aggregation of media was top-priority.

As a result, the committee needed a solution that allowed them to share video highlights in real-time on multiple social media outlets including: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

After teaming with Moments Lab (ex Newsbridge) in July 2019, the Evian Championship team successfully accomplished their initial objective of boosting social media engagement. They did this via aggregating and sharing instantaneous tournament highlights generated by Moments Lab’s live video clipping feature.

To achieve this, the platform was connected to the international signal, already provided to TV Channels and Network in parallel. Several times a day, a motion designer extracted relevant sequences on Moments Lab.

The team added mini featurettes with 3D rendering afterward, widely inspired by popular internet memes.

Once shared on social media, these easily generated clips acquired 7 times more audience and engagement than other social publications made during the same time period for the tournament.

In the end, the team achieved their objective of boosting audience engagement - it went above and beyond expectations. This was due to Moments Lab's live video clipping functionality, resulting in an “A” Game outcome.
