About Avid NEXIS

Avid NEXIS is shared storage for video production teams. It holds media on a team's own network so editors and producers can work on the same files at once.

Moments Lab and Avid NEXIS

Connect NEXIS to Moments Lab and your digital team can ask for a moment in plain language and get it back in seconds, ready to cut, caption and publish. That means more clips a week from the same team, and back-catalog shows that earn nothing today can start feeding a channel. You pick which shows go in, and nothing gets ripped out: your masters stay on NEXIS and your editors stay in Media Composer.

How it works

Moments Lab connects to Avid NEXIS through a gateway: software that runs on a server next to your storage. Our team sets it up during onboarding.

You choose what gets indexed, and your originals stay put

You point the gateway at the NEXIS folders you want searchable. Nothing else is scanned, and you set when transfers run, so they don't compete with production traffic. When the gateway finds a file, it makes a proxy, a low-res copy, and sends only that to Moments Lab for indexing. Your high-res masters stay on NEXIS, so you're not paying for a second copy in the cloud. Metadata already on your files comes across and maps to your fields, and custom fields can carry rights and clearance information. Roles in Moments Lab decide who sees which shows.

Editors keep working in Media Composer

Moments Lab indexes the proxies shot by shot. Anyone can find a moment by keyword, by meaning or by asking the Discovery Agent, then clip it in a browser. Craft editors can search from the Moments Lab panel inside Media Composer and drag clips into a bin, converted to Avid OpAtom MXF. Assemble a project of clips and the gateway generates an AAF, the file Media Composer reads to build a timeline. Import it and the timeline points back at the high-res on NEXIS.
